Quality improvement activities

Cancer screening activities can be undertaken as part of the SPDS program, using CAT4. Refer to the SPDS Data Cleansing Manual. For further information on this initiatives, please contact your Health Coordination Consultant on 1300 069 002.

Consider the HealthPathways PDSA cycle and other online education regarding cervical screening. See the 'Information' tab under clinical resources on the bottom of the page of the Illawarra Shoalhaven HealthPathways or ACT & Southern NSW HealthPathways sites.

The Cancer Institute of NSW's Cancer screening and primary care: A quality improvement toolkit provides general practices with a clear and easy-to-follow roadmap for improving cancer screening rates. It guides practices through the steps required to:

  • establish accurate cancer screening participation rates
  • identify patients who are overdue for screening
  • establish an effective cancer screening reminder system
  • deliver patient-centred care to those at increased risk of non-participation in screening.
