headspace services in Batemans Bay and Bega will benefit from more than $2 million in funding over three years from the Federal Government to help reduce wait times and increase access to vital services for young people on the South Coast.

The Hon Emma McBride MP, Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, and Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health, made the announcement in Batemans Bay today as part of granted to headspace as part of the Demand Management and Enhancement Program.

Ms Kitcher, CEO of COORDINARE – South Eastern NSW PHN, said the organisation worked closely with lead agencies Relationships Australia in Batemans Bay and Grand Pacific Health in Bega to secure funding for the two centres.

“Supporting young people in our region throughout this period of uncertainty and into the future is critically important. This funding will enable more young people to access vital services right across the South Coast to ensure they can get support when they need it,” said Ms Kitcher.

“We are delighted that headspace Batemans Bay will receive $1.24 million over three years to re-design their delivery model to increase and tailor their service response throughout the region. This will include recruiting two new mental health clinicians and an additional youth access worker to ensure young people engage and receive a coordinated approach of care.

“Meanwhile, headspace Bega will receive almost $800,000 over three years to set up brief intervention which has been shown in the latest headspace evaluation to reduce wait times for services and will also set up peer groups facilitated by the senior peer worker and specifically trained youth peer workers. This is a great outcome for both centres,” she added.
