Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) GP Clinical Lead

Project background

COORDINARE is working closely with the Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD and Southern NSW LHD to increase the number of active ODT prescribers in our region to support people with AOD needs and build GP capacity and capability. This project will support: 

  • Up to 20 General Practitioners to engage in training and participate in an online community of practice to increase knowledge and skills in the opioid dependency treatment program.
  • Participating GPs to accept the transfer of care of minimum of five (5) patients who have been stabilised on their Opioid replacement therapy, for ongoing ODT management and routine general practice care for a minimum period of 12 months.
  • The development of referral and communication pathways to support a shared care approach between tertiary and primary care settings.

 

The role

To support the initiative, we are seeking an GP clinical lead who can contribute to the project’s success, including:

  • Provision of phone support to participating GPs in their management of stable ODT patients in the shared care approach with LHDs (a localised adjunct to the state wide Drug and Alcohol Specialist Advisory Service (DASAS) 
  • Supporting and contributing to the delivery of an online Community of Practice
  • Assisting in the development and ongoing management of referral and communication pathways between GP and LHD AOD services. 

This role will require approximately 2- 4 hours per week over the duration of the project. Hours can be negotiated in line with project requirements. Learn more here.
