  • Our model for engaging with allied health professionals

    The National PHN Allied Health in Primary Care Engagement Framework identifies six priority areas for increasing collaboration between PHNs and the allied health sector.

    The Framework supports an ongoing process of strengthening our engagement.

Each of these priority areas come with focus areas that give us opportunities to advance the goals of the Framework. Read more about the aims of each priority area below.

  • Shared leadership between PHNs and the allied health sector.
  • PHNs to collaborate with each other to enhance advocacy and progress shared priorities.
  • Coordination within NSW supporting joint planning and efficient use of resources.
  • Increasing allied health involvement in PHN governance to support a primary health system focus on prevention and wellbeing.
  • Allied health focused education, commissioning, and multidisciplinary team care.
  • Greater recognition of the role and value of allied health in primary care.
  • A toolkit for practice support for allied health practices.
  • Relationship building across the primary health care and the allied health sector.
  • Ongoing training and professional development for the allied health professionals.
  • Strategy and advocacy for data and software standards across the allied health sector.
  • Standards for data sharing to support integration between allied health and primary health providers.
  • Data demonstrating quality and impact of commissioned allied health professionals.
  • Workforce planning and development of the allied health sector.
  • Optimising workforce utilisation of allied health professionals.
  • Commissioning for effective use of the allied health workforce.
  • Engaging allied health professionals in design and implementing pathways and services.
  • Demonstrating the value of allied health to referrers and other stakeholders.
  • Investing in relationships and networks to build effective models of care and linkages.
  • Supporting integration through commissioning approaches.
