headspace opens new premises in Narooma

Young people in Narooma will now find it easier to access mental health support locally and in their own community with the unveiling of a headspace outpost at Narooma, operated by Relationships Australia Canberra and Region from the parent Centre at headspace Batemans Bay.
The Hon Kristy McBain MP, Member for Eden-Monaro, visited the service today and said: “It’s great to see headspace Narooma firmly established in the local community with this dedicated outpost.
“The Albanese Government has invested $320 million to grow and expand the headspace network across the country, and I’m proud to see a dedicated outpost in Narooma.
“We’re delivering for young people across Eden-Monaro by ensuring that essential services like headspace Narooma are there for young people when they need them most.”
Sarah Smith, Manager of headspace Batemans Bay said: “While headspace services have been available in Narooma before, it shows commitment to the community to have a building with signage here.
"We are excited to launch this location and raise awareness amongst the local community that headspace Narooma is here to support young people and will be staffed by some of our local team.”
Jess, a member of headspace Batemans Bay’s Youth Reference Group, believes mental health is something that has become more talked about. “I think a lot of young people around this area will be happy to talk now there were free services available
“I was referred to headspace Batemans Bay about a year ago and I’ve definitely made a lot of improvements in that time. I would recommend it to anyone. The staff here are really lovely, very helpful,” said Jess.
Prudence Buist, CEO of COORDINARE – South Eastern NSW PHN, is thrilled to see headspace Narooma open to provide vital support for young people in the community.
“It’s important for young people in Narooma and surrounding towns to have somewhere they can go for support. We’re incredibly proud to provide that support here at headspace Narooma and encourage any young person experiencing a tough time to get in touch for support,” she said.
headspace Narooma offers mental health counselling and support and can link young people to other partner services including health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.
