Longer opening hours commence at Batemans Bay Medicare Urgent Care Clinic
12 November 2025
People in the Eurobodalla who need urgent health care, for non-life-threatening conditions, can now walk into Batemans Bay Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Medicare UCC) 18 hours a day, seven days a week, including public holidays.
Funded by the Australian Government, the increase in opening hours for Batemans Bay Medicare UCC was announced today by Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP.
“This is great news for the people of Batemans Bay with the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic now open 18 hours a day, from 6am to midnight,” said Ms Phillips.
“The timing is excellent, with the busy summer holiday period almost upon us and, of course, the clinic will be used by visitors to the region as well as locals,” she said.
Since it opened in December 2023 this clinic, located at Batemans Bay Hospital, has seen more than 19,680 presentations, an average of 35 patient visits per day, including local residents and visitors to the South Coast.
Melissa Neal, Acting Chief Executive Officer of COORDINARE – South Eastern NSW PHN said: “We’ve worked closely with both the Australian Government and provider ForHealth to extend opening hours. This reflects the Eurobodalla community’s strong response to the service and helps ease pressure on Batemans Bay Hospital and local general practices.”
“It is free to attend the clinic, so if you or a member of your family have experienced an injury like a deep cut, or an injury where you think you may have a broken bone, or if you have a simple eye injury, symptoms of an ear infection or have had a minor burn, you can be seen at Batemans Bay Medicare Urgent Care Clinic. People who require emergency and life-saving care should go directly to the emergency department.
“Urgent Care Clinics provide fully bulk billed urgent care, by highly trained doctors and nurses, and appointments are not required. If you have a Medicare card or number, ensure you bring it with you when you visit the Medicare UCC,” said Ms Neal.
Recent data* demonstrates that Batemans Bay Medicare UCC is having an impact. Semi-urgent presentations to Batemans Bay Emergency Department reduced by 9.7% and non-urgent presentations were down by 14.8%, when compared with the previous reporting period.
Over 22% of presentations to Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in NSW have been outside standard business hours, which shows the clinics are improving access for patients to services across extended hours and over the weekend.
Over one in four visits to Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in NSW have taken place on a weekend, while one in five weekday visits took place at 5pm or later. One in four visits treating a young person under 15, NSW Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are giving families timely health care and peace of mind.
The Batemans Bay clinic at 7 Pacific Street, Batemans Bay is one of a few Medicare UCCs offering extended opening hours. More Medicare UCCs are planned to open in coming months in Nowra, Shellharbour and Bega.
